Ashley is a freelance writer based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her work has appeared online and in print with NBC’s HardballTalk, USA Today Sports, Baseball Prospectus, SB Nation, Sporting News, and Mashable, among other publications. She recently finished writing her first book, a retrospective on the 1992 film Newsies, and is looking forward to taking on new and challenging projects in the next year.
Following a failed stint with the Cha-Cha Mermaids, a perennially losing intramural college softball team based in Santa Barbara, Calif., Ashley turned her attention to less athletic pursuits and began a self-taught education in sports writing in 2010. Her affection for the Seattle Mariners, underdog narratives, and quality ballpark bacon-wrapped hot dogs has sustained her through multiple sub-.500 seasons, a pair of perfect games, and the arrival and departure of one Munenori Kawasaki.
Beyond baseball, Ashley also nurtures a deep love for history, theme parks, musical theatre, and literature. Her weekly forays into the politics and legacy of American theme parks are currently featured by Theme Park Tourist, while you can find her musings on everything from travel recommendations and Oscar-nominated films to theatre reviews and personal essays on her blog.
